Avanzare

It’s with great sadness that I report that Avanzare was humanely euthanized this morning due to colic. Most will remember Zar as the beloved mount of Joan Todd (saddlebred-lady). Zar was foaled in 1991 and competed early in his career in the three gaited pleasure and country pleasure divisions. Joan purchased him in 1996 and showed him in the western division before switching him to the hunt division. Zar excelled in the hunt division winning top ribbons at major shows throughout Indiana, Ohio and Missouri.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I saw Joan show him a few years ago at Ohio State. They looked like an awesome team.

Joan, You and Zar did so much for the huntseat division!!!!
Zar was a great gelding, his personality will keep all the memories you shared together alive.

Thank you all --

Your kind words, calls, emails and posts here have meant the world to me. Zar was a very special horse, he and I had some great times together and weathered some pretty bad storms together, too. We've been a team for many years and I am so happy he was enjoying retirement here at our place after a successful show career. Zar always thought highly of himself and "turned it on" in the ring.

Wednesday was a gorgeous day, and he spent it outside in the pasture with all of his buddies, and ran with characteristic ears up to come in for dinner. I found him colicking last night as I was doing bed-check, the vet came and treated him, and he was sleeping comfortably when I checked on him at midnight. But this morning he was in even deeper trouble and the vet and I agreed he wasn't likely to survive the trip to Purdue. We buried him in a favorite hang-out spot near the barn. It is a great comfort to have him close by, always -- and I am reminded of my many blessings with your kind and comforting words.

Thank you again -- it means the world to me.

He was a lucky horse to have had someone love him so much. I am very sorry for your loss. :(

Sorry to hear about his passing.

Here is a picture from when Nealia had him in 1996 before he went to Barbara Kyler in Indiana

Joan;

I am so sorry. Bob and I chatted briefly about your wonderful boy. Many hugs to you.

Tangled Up In Blue misses her stablemate and "Stud Muffin"... they were inseparable . I didn't even need to lead Blue outside, she just follwed Zar everywhere.
Rest in Peace buddy. You will be missed.

It is never easy to loose those special babies that we hold so dear but I hope it gives you comfort that he was loved and he knew he was loved and knew no hurt. He will be with you now for all times.

I am sorry for your loss

Kathie, thank you -- Bob called and I am so lucky to have such great support from you all, especially now.

Dee, thanks for coming to the barn, bringing the flowers, hugging me and talking to Blue. We joke that she's an old cougar and will find a new boyfriend, but I do think Zar-Zar will always be her special "Stud Muffin."

Magic, thanks so much for posting that picture -- is that you aboard, way back when? That's him alright -- Mr. Bright Ears! I showed him a few times in show pleasure for Barb before ending up buying him. He brought me back into the Saddlebred world after having my babies, and was always a blessing in my life. I hope I was for him as well. You can see more pictures of Zar on my webpage, www.dreamacresllc.com, under "show horses."

Thank you again!

Joan,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.

With Warmest Regards,

That is Ellen Lifson aboard. If you want a copy email me at patjohnsonmagic@gmail and I'll get it to you.

Joan - I just looked at your website. Your colt, He's Gone Platinum is related to my gelding. His grand dam, Sable Rose (dam of Manilla Thrilla) is a full sister to my Nick (the horse that Bob rode at the Royal).

Hope that trivia made you smile on an otherwise regrettable day.

saddlebred-lady 10-09-2009 02:56 AM

Lily, Lynn -- thank you!

Pat, thank you for the picture offer, check your email ...

And yes, Kathie -- good to know we're blood ...
